Grind Most Flywheels in 5–10 Minutes — No Skilled Machinist Required.
The Van Norman FG5000 is a production-grade flywheel grinder built for automotive and diesel shops that want to bring flywheel work in-house, eliminate outsourcing delays, and capture more profit per job. Versatile enough for automotive, import, light truck, and heavy-duty truck flywheels — as well as center plates and racing clutch components — the FG5000 is the most accessible entry into Van Norman's flywheel grinding lineup without compromising on precision or durability.
- 5 HP grinding motor @ 3,500 RPM — grinds most automotive and light truck flywheels floor-to-floor in 5–10 minutes
- Zero table deflection — one-piece 480 lb base casting with cast-in table support; no thrust bearings, no wear, no field service required
- 4.44" chromed, precision-ground column — rubber-boot protected, constantly lubricated via felt wick; largest lead screw (1.250") on any flywheel grinder
- Direct drive gear reduction — no chains or belts to adjust, lubricate, or replace; consistent torque every cycle
- Plunge grinding — grinds the entire friction surface simultaneously; operator controls swirl finish quality via sparkout time
- Available in single or three phase — 208 or 230V standard; additional voltages as special order
- Optional PowerHead (Auto Downfeed) — powers the head up and down automatically; eliminates manual column movement
- Optional AutoGrind™ — available with PowerHead; pre-set depth stop for repeatable, unattended grinding cycles
- Optional HD Truck Rotor Kit — adds Heavy Duty Commercial Truck Brake Rotor grinding capability
- Made in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by Van Norman craftsmen
FG5000 vs. FG10000 — Which do you need?
The FG5000 and FG10000 share the same table diameter, work piece capacity, and shop footprint. The FG10000 steps up with a larger 5.5" column (vs. 4.44"), more vertical head travel (10.5" vs. 8.75"), and double the grinding motor (10 HP vs. 5 HP). Choose the FG10000 if you regularly grind heavy-duty truck flywheels, run high daily volume, or need maximum rigidity for hard-spot work. The FG5000 is the right choice for most automotive and diesel rebuilding shops.
